OUR HEAD PROFESSIONAL, JON BARNES
Jon Barnes joined the team at Ampfield Golf Club on 1 January 2009, Jon is our Head Professional and Director of Golf.
Ampfield Golf Club hosts the Hampshire PGA Short course championship annually, which is a pro-am event. Jon has won this event twice and holds the 36 Hole course record of 11 under par! Now members and visitors alike don’t have to wait all year to play with a top pro, they can play on a weekly basis, dramatically improving their golf and enjoyment of the game.
Jon has a very successful local playing schedule. Some of the events he has won over his 12 years as a class AA PGA Professional are shown below:
• 6 times winner of the HPGA Order of Merit
• Hampshire Open Champion 2007
• 2 times winner HPGA Stroke Play Championship
• 3 times winner of HPGA Matchplay Championship
• Meachers Masters Winner 1996
• 2 times winner of the HPGA Short Course Championship, which is held
at Ampfield annually.
Ampfield will indeed encourage Jon to keep up his winning ways in the years to come planting Ampfield Golf Club firmly on the map.
Jons coaching is renowned in the county of Hampshire and was a Hampshire county coach from 2003 to 2006. He coaches players of all ages and all abilities, ranging from complete beginners to Ryder Cup players.
Jon has met and studied with some of the world’s most well known coaches including; John Jacobs, Denis Pugh, Bill Ferguson and John Stirling. He is enthusiastic to impart this knowledge and expertise to his pupils.
Jon has an excellent short game and believes that spending time developing your short game is a sure way to lower your scores. Bob Rotella once said: ‘If you’re not spending 70% of your practice time on shots from 120 yards and in you’re not trying to become the best golfer you can be.’
Ampfield will be investing in a state of the art outdoor artificial green, which performs like a tour green. This will be an attractive addition to our fantastic golf club. If you are not chipping the ball pure our new green will let you know. That’s where our Head Professional will come in, providing coaching on the fundamentals of chipping and putting to improve your game! This facility will be unique in the county and extremely popular and very addictive, as you will be hitting off a perfect lie to a perfect green. This emphasizes our commitment to excellence at Ampfield Golf Club. We look forward to seeing you at the club. This facility will only be available for Ampfield golf club members and anyone having a supervised lesson with our head professional Jon Barnes.
AMPFIELD ACADEMY
Ampfield Academy is the ideal coaching situation for beginners of all ages as the length of the 18 hole par three course does not intimidate by distance and allows everyone to develop a sense of golfing achievement quickly.
£25 per half hour
